I've been using passionflower a lot lately, so I wanted to share some key insights on this beautiful herb.

Historically, Passiflora incarnata was used by Cherokee First Nations people to treat liver issues and applied externally for boils, wounds, and earaches. They also brewed root infusions as a blood tonic for weaning infants.

Passionflower has long supported those with drug abuse or addiction, dating back to the early 1900s, when it eased nervousness and insomnia tied to acute or chronic alcoholism.

In herbal medicine, the aerial parts of passionflower calm insomnia, anxiety, tension headaches, nervous tachycardia, excitability, and irritability. It works by boosting GABA activity in the brain to quiet overactive nerve signals, promoting gentle relaxation without the harsh side effects.

What stands out for me is its fast action. Just 5ml in tonic form can ease anxiety in about 10 minutes. It's also great for silencing the night time mental chatter to help you drift back to sleep.

It pairs beautifully with skullcap, hops, or valerian in a sleep tonic.

If you are struggling with anxiety or restless nights, book a consult, I'd love to help you.
